Lot 70: Ann Grim

Rien ne reste sinon l’esprit (Nothing left but the soul), 2017
Installation, 4X4X1.6 m

Artist Statement: This artwork is a “brain reset” scene, raising the question of the humankind stage of consciousness based on the prey and predator. Evolving toward its end, embracing a new order, so far unexperienced; a new kind at a higher stage of consciousness would see the day.
The artist represent here her perception of a Mental Crash: nothing is left but the soul. She hopes that the proceeds of her art will help cover some of the Mental Health needs of the Grenfell survivors by way of counselling and group therapy to deal with post-traumatic stress, depression and bereavement

Chamber, 2014

Pen and Ink on paper, 59 x 70 cm, framed

Artist Statement: My practice is focused on the relationships between drawing, painting and sculpture and draws from architectural theory to explore the permeability’s between the body, complex emotional states and architectural spaces. I am interested in the sculptural idea of the room as a container or vessel which objects and emotions can pour in and out of, and drain leak or overflow. My work is often influenced by a complex mixture of literature, architectural theory and politics. The skin can be visualised as an architectural membrane that holds us together. The fetish like objects and drawings that I make inhabit a dark architectural space that uses ideas of “apotropaic” (protective) folklore that can defend, protect and constrain the body.

Politricks, 2017

Clay – painted with acrylics and mounted on canvas, ready to be mounted on the wall

Artist Statement: :  “Needing to let out my feelings…this piece was created about a month after the horrific fire at Grenfell…This piece ‘speaks’ my reaction to an event that struck me core-deep…needing to point a finger and peel back the disinformation of statements…of words spoken and insincere emotional gestures made with unmoving lips…staid facial expressions …lives reduced to dust and no acknowledgement of the gifts lost…the talents lost…those who I felt made this whole situation so much worse than it needed to be…human life is merely currency in the world of ‘Politricks’ and the exchange rate reduces with demographic clarity. This piece was inspired by pain…frustration…anger and created by me Donna Bayliss aka. ‘An Accidental Artist’”
